Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the initial impact of the “Pé-de-Meia Licenciaturas” Program, established in 2024, evaluating its role as a student retention policy and a means of valuing teacher education in Brazil. The research uses critical education as its theoretical basis, referencing authors such as Freire, Giroux, and others. It adopts a methodology with a qualitative approach in education, using documentary and bibliographic analysis, complemented by official data from the Ministry of Education (MEC), relating to the year 2025, covering the national scenario of licensure programs. Initial results demonstrate a significant increase in enrollments of qualified candidates nationwide (+60%). The study also identifies operational and selectivity challenges, noting that the vast potential of eligible candidates (more than 370.000) has not yet been fully achieved. It is concluded that, although the "Pé-de-Meia" program has the potential to consolidate itself as an important public policy for social justice, its effectiveness depends on adjustments in its implementation and, above all, on a firm commitment to promoting the critical education of teacher as transformative intellectual.
