Adult and Youth Education (AYE) aims to ensure schooling for individuals historically deprived of the right to education. This article investigates the meanings attributed by adults and seniors in EJA to the learning progress through self-assessment activities. Epistemologically, it seeks a dialogue between historical-cultural perspectives and authors in the evaluation’s field: Hadji (2001), Hoffmann (2014), Lopes e Silva (2012), Luckesi (2011), and Villas Boas (2006; 2008; 2011; 2017). Data produced by action research and participant observation, including group interviews and questionnaires, highlight the relevance of self-assessment for learning progress.
