Abstract

This article analyzes the television series Interview with the Vampire (2025), focusing on the final episode of its second season, through the lens of intermediality and metafiction. The study examines how theater, incorporated into the audiovisual narrative, functions as both an intermedial and metadiscursive device that expands the narrative layers and enables the protagonist Lestat’s self-reflection. Through a dramatized staging of his own trajectory, the character is confronted with his actions and memories in a mise en abyme process that blurs the boundaries between fiction and confession. Grounded in theoretical contributions from Rajewsky (2005), Kobs (2006), Hutcheon (1991), Butler (2015), and Mattos (2023), the analysis shows that the integration of theater into the diegesis allows for narrative branching, as it opens space for alternative perspectives on events, especially when characters themselves take on the role of narrators to explain their choices and justify their consequences.
