Derived from a master's research, this article critically analyzes the objective and subjective conditions which mediate the early-career Biology teachers’ practices. It is based on the conception of education such as a process of human being formation. The empirical corpus was produced through Critical-Reflective Interviews and analyzed by Meaning Nuclei. The results indicate that the teaching practice is conditioned by objective conditions — such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of materials, overcrowded classes, insufficient transportation, and professional devaluation — which constrain the diversified pedagogical practices besides generating tensions and emotional strain among teachers. Dialectically, subjective conditions also emerge, related to interpersonal relations, motivation, sense of belonging, and expectations regarding teaching work. It is concluded that Biology teaching at the beginning of a career is a complex activity, shaped by the contradiction between the desire to carry out successful practices and the challenges imposed by school reality.
