This article analyzes escrevivência as a poetics of process in the short-story collection Olhos d’água, understanding it not only as a thematic category or an authorial gesture, but also as a procedure of narrative composition. The article proceeds from the hypothesis that, in Evaristo’s short stories, memory, experience, fiction and collective history do not appear as external layers, but as materials integrated into the process of literary creation itself. To develop this hypothesis, the article examines three stories from the collection: “Olhos d’água”, “Maria” and “A gente combinamos de não morrer”, observing how narrative voice, focalization, characters, time and space transform individual and collective experiences into fictional form. The study brings discussions of creative writing, process criticism, memory, Afro-Brazilian literature and self-writing into dialogue with specific passages from the stories analyzed. It argues that the collection allows us to understand the creative process as a work of transfiguration in which historical, affective and social marks are reorganized through formal choices of considerable aesthetic and political force.
