Abstract

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the effects of state policies in Brazil to encourage imports on trade relations (interstate and international) in their regional dimension. Policies are analyzed from two main perspectives: (1) what they represent to regional development in Brazil; (2) its possible effects on the production structure of the country (in its sectoral and spatial dimensions). As an example, it was used the evolution of the foreign commerce of the state of Santa Catarina and its interstate commerce with São Paulo, the former, the most representative state as signatory of the fiscal war of ports.
