Abstract

Introduction: Infertility resulting from cervical cancer is one of the significant repercussions that affect the future parenting project. Objective: This multiple case study aimed to investigate the meanings attributed to the design of parenting in the context of infertility after the experience of cervical cancer. Method: Three cases were discussed, from interviews with two couples and one wife, totalizing seven interviews, individual and in couple, which were submitted to thematic content analysis. Results: The couples mentioned coping strategies for the suffering caused by loss of reproductive function, based on the re-signification of the meanings attributed to parenting. Social stigma has been cited as a source of suffering, which is related to the naturalization of parental social roles. The impossibility of the consanguineous parental exercise provoked the search for alternatives, such as adoption, which did not materialize due to the prejudice generated in this type of affiliation. Conclusion: It is suggested to approach the parental project in the line of care with these couples.
