ENVIRONMENTAL (UN)SUSTAINABILITY IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY:
CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY AND THE REFLECTIONS FOR THE CAPITAL MARKET
Abstract
It discusses the evolution of clothing to the development of fashion as a consumer factor, it’s importance in economic sector and as an expression of identity. It presents the environmental impact caused by the fashion industry, more intensely fast fashion model, and the main difficulties in controlling and regulating the activity, especially when cross-border, despite a large amount of environmental laws. It discusses corporate responsibility in its legal, economic and social aspects as well as the unsustainability of this production model. It analyzes the possibilities of aiding methodologies arising from the Economy Science for better normative regulation as well as the development on the international scene of the Environmental, Social and Governance concept, measures that, although not binding, have acquired wide adhesion in the business environment, prominently in the capital market, changing investment indicator, causing repercussions on the fashion sector. This is basic research, carried out using the deductive method, through the analysis of legislation, jurisprudence, and printed and digital doctrine.
