HEROES AND MONSTERS: MYTHICAL NARRATIVES IN THE PROTECTION OF NATURE

Currently, continuous damage to the planet is identified daily, some from causes considered "natural" and others resulting from direct action of exploitative logics, challenging the notion of finite natural resources. In view of this, this article seeks to analyze the problem drawing from the study of nature protection myths. It is expected to understand how the cultural imaginary cooperates in signifying the complex relationship between humans and their environment. Such mythical narratives demonstrate that this relationship with the biosphere has never been simple, and has never been entirely peaceful; however, considering their signification, understanding them can contribute to the debate. The methodology used for this work will be bibliographical and will utilize linguistic analysis through comparative literary study of two guardians of nature, Humbaba and Boitatá, considering the cultural and religious imaginaries of their formation.
