Abstract

This article makes a theoretical and, to a certain extent, propositional reflection on the conceptions, assumptions and evidences of climate change in the tropics, with emphasis on the Brazilian semiarid region. The contributions of agriculture to climate change are presented and the impacts of climate change on family agriculture in the semiarid region are analyzed. Evidence of mitigation and adaptation in agroecological systems of the semiarid region is presented and an outline of an agenda of the sector based on the commitments assumed by the country and the needs of mitigation and adaptation is provided.

  • Guillermo Gamarra-Rojas, Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)
    Possui graduação em Agronomia pela Universidade Federal de Alagoas (1985), mestrado em Ciências Agrárias pela Escola de Agronomia da Universidade Federal da Bahia (1994) e doutorado em Botânica pela Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (2002). Atua nas áreas de Agroecologia, Extensão Rural, Desenvolvimento e Políticas Públicas. Tem experiência em elaboração e coordenação de projetos de pesquisa e desenvolvimento, extensão e formação profissional nos níveis local, estadual e nacional e na cooperação internacional. Atualmente é professor adjunto da UFC. Leciona nos Cursos de Graduação das Ciências Agrárias (Agronomia, Economia Ecológica, Engenharia de Pesca e Zootecnia). Atua como orientador e co-orientador em Cursos de Pós-graduação: Mestrado Acadêmico em Economia Rural (MAER), Programa de Pós-Graduação em Desenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente (PRODEMA) e Máster Interuniversitario en Agroecología: un Enfoque para la Sustentabilidad Rural”, Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, Baeza.
