Abstract

A massive urban populational concentration and substantial industrialization besides changes in the consumer behavior can be noticed today. These factors contribute to an increase in generation of solid waste causing enormous environmental damage and harming the quality of life in the urban system. One of the causes is the production pattern and the inadequate consumption found in the urban areas, which is carefree with sustainability. This paper aims to demonstrate the relation between consumption and generation of solid residues within the urban system, proposing the modification of the current non-sustainable production and consumption models, besides focusing on non-generation and minimization of solid urban residues.
