A discourse that redo: deletions in the natural resources in the city of São José dos Campos, Brazil

Abstract

The paper presents a line of research that has been developed at the Masters Degree graduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning on the University of Vale do Paraíba, SP, Brazil. The approach seek to connect knowledge from different fields of knowledge (sociology, anthropology, discourse analysis, history) focusing on the formation of collective identities based on the configuration and use of urban space. More specifically, it is discussed the policy of preservation of the historical patrimony of the city of Sao Jose dos Campos, state of São Paulo, seeking to perceive it as part of a process in which segments of the hegemonic population attempt to impose its particular representation of the city. It is then approached in the study the exclusion of the population majority of the discussions and change of local elites, leading to a deletion of the marks of the old period when the organization of the city was directed towards the tuberculosis disease treatment. Then, it was perceived that this approach cannot be restricted to what is said about the city, bus has to be extended to how the city speaks about itself through the configuration of its urban space.
