Discursive Frames of Femicide: Symbolic Violence and Misogyny from the Superframe Justified_Violence

Abstract

This article analyzes the discursive mechanisms that sustain the naturalization of gender-based violence in digital environments, focusing on the repercussions of the Eliza Samudio femicide. The central objective is to investigate the semantic frames emerging in misogynistic comments, which, rather than repudiating the offense, act to delegitimize the victim and symbolically justify the crime. Grounded in the interface between Charles Fillmore’s Frame Semantics and the theories on domination and patriarchy by Pierre Bourdieu, Heleieth Saffioti, and bell hooks, the study examines how language operates as a locus for the perpetuation of violence. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative-interpretative approach assisted by Corpus Linguistics tools (via AntConc), applied to a pilot corpus of 75 comments extracted from Facebook posts from 2022 onwards. The results demonstrate that misogyny is hierarchically organized under the Justified_Violence superframe, unfolding into operational categories of victim blaming, stigmatization, and demoralization, as well as crime minimization and support for the aggressor.
