In this research, we analyze a cartoon circulating in a digital environment that recovers the sociopolitical context of Lula's nomination as Minister of the Civil House, through the appointment of former president Dilma Rousseff, with the aim of presenting a situated approach to pictorial metaphor. To this end, we adopt, in an integrated manner, Frame Semantics (LAKOFF, 2006; FILLMORE, 2006), Conceptual Integration Theory (FAUCONNIER; TURNER, 2002), the monomodal and multimodal metaphor approach (FORCEVILLE, 2006, 2008, 2017; GONÇALVES-SEGUNDO; ISOLA-LANZONI; WEISS, 2019) and the concepts of situated metaphor and metaphorical niche (VEREZA, 2010, 2013) as theoretical support. The analysis indicates that the pictorial metaphor acts as a guide for the cognitive-discursive construction of the argumentation and the adequacy of the applicability of approaches in Cognitive Semantics together. We hope, with this work, to contribute to the theoretical-methodological development of the field of metaphor studies that align with the second phase of the cognitive-discursive turn (VEREZA, 2013).
