Abstract

The article aims to analyze the importance of family farming in the scope of Brazilian agriculture, with regard to the value of production, the main activities produced and the participation of the regions of the country in the generation of wealth in this segment. Specifically, it aims to carry out a brief review of the theoretical framework on the concept of rural development, as well as to contextualize the social and economic development of Brazilian agriculture. The results point to the social, economic and regional inequality of agriculture, between business and family farming, as well as within family farming. In 2017, wealth generated by corporate (80%) and family (75%) agriculture comes, basically, from the Center-South regions, and the productive activities in these regions are concentrated in monocultures such as soybeans and corn.
