Abstract

This present paper’s main objective is to determine and analyze the evolution of concentration in the Brazilian steel industry between 1991 and 2013. For the calculations it used the ratio of concentration, the Herfindahl index and of the Theil entropy, based on data available for the sector, provided by the Brazil Steel Institute. It concluded that, during the period examined, the industrial concentration in the sector increased; and that the main cause of this increase was the industry consolidation - mergers and acquisitions - occurred in the period.
