Abstract

Objective: identify the characteristics and needs of the population in question and describe the main results found through the link between the hospital unit and the university, for the development of an outpatient clinic designed to care for post-Covid-19 patients. Methodology: tor this, from June to December 2021, we observed the post-discharge of patients hospitalized who remained with functional physical sequelae resulting from Covid-19. These patients, after consent, were welcomed at the Post-Covid-19 Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic and evaluated for muscle strength, dependence and functional performance, so that they could receive the necessary and individualized physical therapy assistance. Results: 21 individuals aged between 33 and 74 years were treated, mainly with Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH), Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and obesity, with complaints such as fatigue, muscle weakness and dyspnea. The mean hospitalization time was 31 days, with the majority requiring Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (IMV) and neuromuscular blockers. Of those evaluated, 8 individuals were functionally independent, even though they had greater difficulty in carrying out activities of daily living after contracting Covid-19, 9 needed walking aids and 6 were totally dependent on the help of others. The interventions were focused on restoring cardiorespiratory conditioning aiming at returning to the Activities of Daily Living, for this purpose aerobic training, muscle strengthening, balance and flexibility were carried out 3 times a week with a moderate intensity. Conclusion: we observed that the interaction between the University and tertiary care was essential for the development of an intensive rehabilitation process, restoring the functional independence of individuals who were hospitalized due to Covid-19.
