Abstract

Introduction: the COVID-19 pandemic has had numerous global consequences, impacting the physical and mental health of the population. Teachers in particular have been impacted by this scenario, facing significant changes in their work and routine during the pandemic. Objective: the objective was to verify the frequency of feelings of nervousness and sadness among teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated factors. Method: this is an epidemiological websurvey performed with teachers of public basic education in Minas Gerais, in urban and rural areas. Using digital forms, data was collected in 2020. The dependent variable was the feeling of nervousness and sadness during the pandemic. Poisson Regression was used. Results: there were 15,641 teachers who participated in the study. Among them, 44.2% had feelings of nervousness and sadness often/always during the pandemic, with a higher prevalence among women (PR=1.41), teachers under 30 years old (PR=1.65), who worked in the urban area (PR=1.07), dissatisfied with work (PR=1.24), experiencing great difficulty at work (PR=1.24), who used a computer for four hours/day or more (PR=1.13), who were part of the COVID-19 risk

group (PR=1.09), who had severe fear of COVID-19 (PR=1.53), with sleep problems (PR=2.77), with a worse dietary pattern (PR=1.06), the physically inactive (PR=1.10), who reported weight gain (PR=1.14), who increased their alcohol consumption (PR=1.18) and smokers (PR=1.10).. Conclusion: there was a high prevalence of teachers felt nervous and sad during the pandemic. In addition to other factors, these feelings appeared to be associated with nocive health behaviors.
